CRATEREd Cuboctahedron

Fold a single piece into this amazing geometric form (mathematicians call it a cuboctahedron). I think it’s a satellite or UFO. What do you think?

 
 

Project Info

Paper required: one sheet 8 1/2 inch x 11 inch (or A4)

Finished Project size: 2 inches (5 cm)

Difficulty Level: Intermediate

 
 

INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Print the pattern onto the paper of your choice. For the example, I used one side of a large envelope that came in the mail, and made the inside of the envelope the outside of the pattern.

Read the pattern key included in the General Instructions.

 

Step 2

Cut out the pattern by cutting around the outside of the pattern on all black lines.

STEP 3

Fold pattern on all red and green lines. Green lines are valley folds and red lines are mountain folds.

Step 4

Glue Flap A to the other Flap A, Flap B to the other Flap B, Flap C to the other Flap C, and Flap D to the other Flap D.

Step 5

Glue Flap J to the other Flap J, Flap P to the other Flap P, Flap Q to the other Flap Q, Flap N to the other Flap N, Flap K to the other Flap K, and Flap L to the other Flap L.

Step 6

Glue remaining flaps; O to O, and R to R; then M to M and V to V; then E to E and F to F; and lastly G to G, S to S, T to T, and H to H.
